What is This Town?

When I moved from Youngstown, Ohio to Boise, ID I had no idea if this would be a stop for a few years or somewhere that I'd like to stay for the rest of my life.  With it's vibrant Downtown, countless opportunities to be outdoors, college football at it's very best and other countless charms, it's no surprise why they call Boise and it's surrounding communities the "Treasure Valley." This Town is dedicated to unique things going in Boise.

Boise's Top 10 Breweries: Crooked Fence

September 8, 2015

Well needless to say, the last couple weeks have been insanely busy and I've fallen behind in my brew countdown.  That doesn't mean I haven't been hopping around town enjoying a cold one every opportunity I get!  And now that fall is approaching, I'm eagerly awaiting the return of one of my favorite beers from Crooked Fence, the Evil Harvest Pumpkin Ale!

Crooked Fence Brewing

It’s hard to tell what the minds behind Crooked Fence are more proud of their beer or the hand drawn art that wraps their bottle. This brewery promises to always be “perfectly unusual” with their only goal being to make good beer and have fun doing it.

That may mean some good natured ribbing of local politicians. Crooked Fence released their “Little Bitch Otter” not long after Governor Butch Otter appealed a District Judge’s decision to overturn Idaho’s same-sex marriage ban. The label featured an otter dressed suspiciously like the governor and read “unfortunately brewed in Idaho.” The brewery donated 10% of the sales of the India Brown Ale toward equality causes like Add the Words Idaho. The brewery has also created Idaho centric beers like the Pedal Pusher Ale (an ode to bikes on the Greenbelt and a brew that benefited the Boise Bicycle Project) and Potato Porter.

They have three locations including the Brewery Tasting Room, Barrelhouse and Crooked Flats where something unusual is always going on. Whether it’s wake skating and boarding on land, the Brew O’lympics or a belly flop contest you know that Crooked Fence plays as hard as they work.
