I can't believe it's been over three years since my last endurance race, the 2012 Lake Lowell Marathon. Not long after that my life and plans for the future started to unravel. Without being overly dramatic I'll tell you I was in a position where my self confidence was pretty much non-existent. I was too sad/tired to run and spent more time over indulging in cocktails Downtown than I did running on the Green Belt. Any time I tried to get back into training life got in the way after a couple of weeks or I'd end up injured (no doubt from being 20 pounds heavier than the last time I ran an endurance race.)
While my life is still hella hectic from day to day, I'm making a commitment to taking training seriously this time around. I've dropped those 20 pounds. I have an incredible support system in my boyfriend. And I'm setting goals so that even when I'm frazzled I keep my eye on the prize and go for a run even when I'm feeling too tired or stressed to do the run well.
Here's the goals I'm working towards during my so called "comeback" season this summer:
- Compete in at least 4 of the 8 YMCA All Comers Track Meets This Summer
- End the season running a 3:00 800 M Run and 6:40 1500 M Run
- Complete a 10K at Fit For Life on July 11th, 2015
- Complete either the Y-Not Tri Triathlon or Freakin' Fast Half on July 18th, 2015
- Complete the Idaho Wine Run Half Marathon on August 15th, 2015
I'm looking forward to the challenge of reaching these goals! It won't be easy with the crazy hours I work or the fact that it feels like I have no hamstring muscles left as a result of following my weight loss plan. Limits only exist if you let them. The hamstring problem is something I can solve with a little dedication to hitting the weight room! Here's to a great summer racing season.
